Everyday tennis enthusiasts are being offered the chance to win a seven-figure prize when they take on elite players - including top-ranked Carlos Alcaraz - in a single-point showdown prior to January's Australian Open

Organizers of the Melbourne major have unveiled the Million Dollar One Point Slam, which will pit everyday competitors against top-ranked players in a single-elimination format at the tournament grounds

The Unique Competition Operates

Participants must play 'the decision-making game' to determine who gets to serve or return, and the player who wins the point will move forward to the subsequent phase

The victor of the event will earn a significant cash prize

Contextually, players who reached the semi-finals of the primary tournaments in the previous year's tournament won substantial prize money

Previous Comparable Tournaments

The US Open organized a restructured, separate mixed doubles tournament in late summer which encouraged top singles players to participate, with the victors receiving $1m

The Australian Open held its first-ever single-point competition earlier this year, but the cash prize was a smaller amount and it had limited exposure

Andrey Rublev was the sole elite competitor competing, and his campaign came to an end when he put the one and only serve permitted into the net in his penultimate round

Organizers have not specified precisely how the event will work, but it is anticipated to emulate a similar format to this year's edition

The professionals will be allowed to make one service and the non-professionals twice - as is the norm in conventional tennis

While it is not certain how the bracket will work, there will be multiple elimination stages and the venue will be the primary court rather than the alternative court

The final stages will occur in a night session instead of midday timing

Entry Information

Any Australians - or international players who have signed up with the national federation - can compete in 'One Point Slam' competitions at their neighborhood facilities

The winners of the community events will then go into a draw, with an everyday competitor from every geographic division picked to compete in the 'championship round' in a nighttime event on the specified date

There will also be a qualifying draw in the final month which amateurs, aspiring competitors, famous personalities and sport stars can participate in

It begins on the starting date and the two winners will qualify for the midweek 'championship match' with the other eight amateurs and 10 professionals

"Regardless of your skill level, the final champion will walk away with the prize. Applications will start imminently at facilities nationwide"

Competition planners mentioned there were "further celebrities to be unveiled imminently", while the official website said "celebrities" would be taking part
