Iran Claims Assault on American Facility in Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched missile attacks throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing offensive against it by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity close to the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any damage is unclear and the American officials has yet to issue a statement.
Missile Defenses Activated
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - reported they have shot down missiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
IRGC Statement
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was striking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the offensive on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That preceding assault - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck locations associated with the the regime, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.
Additional Developments
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," the statement continued.
It said missile fragments fell on a residential area in the capital, resulting in some structural damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
