Supporters Demand Arrest of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of the actress are demanding that a man who breached a barricade and touched the performer during the recent Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or removed from Singapore.
A viral video shows the Australian man bypassing media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the cast walked down a promenade surrounded by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo promptly guided the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the gathering by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being detained", though court documents revealed that he was set to be present on the next day. It is unknown if he was formally accused.
History of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has crashed a concert or event. His Instagram profile includes videos of him interrupting other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney show in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the city last December.
"Measures must be taken taken against him as this is obviously a punishable act," stated an Instagram follower, in a message to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user remarked.
Fans Express Concern Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Several fans criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had spoken of experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her May 2017 show in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented one more message on Instagram.
Several fans also faulted guards at the Thursday event for not being sufficiently alert; while others demanded digital services to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Event Details
In videos shared widely, Grande seemed surprised when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen comforting her while Mr Wen was removed by guards.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the remaining proceedings carried on uninterrupted.
