This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.

While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the onset of a second term in office.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future away from worry.”

The gathering, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The swine, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The trend became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A Future Secured

The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the holiday season,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the character of Miami: happy, varied, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Annually, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
